
HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR DAY 2024
Celebrations Across the World
June 4, 2024, marked the fourth annual Holocaust Survivor Day. Dozens of events and programs around the world ensured that survivors received the appreciation and celebration from their communities that they rightfully deserve.
JCC Krakow
Hosted a dinner for 14 local survivors and sent flowers to the 44 others who could not attend in person. Several students from the Hillel Krakow club, young professionals affiliated with the Rejwach group, and other community members joined the dinner, making it an incredibly meaningful, intergenerational event.
The Edith and Carl Marks Jewish Community House of Bensonhurst
Hosted an afternoon event on Wednesday, June 5th. It was an intergenerational challah-baking workshop for Russian-speaking Holocaust survivors and their families, reaching about 50 survivors and over 80 guests in total.
Goodman Jewish Family Services of Broward County
Hosted an event for local survivors, giving out commemorative coins based on 2022 designs from the Palm Beach community.

Hosted a brunch and Ride For The Living Satellite Event bike ride at the Edlavitch Jewish Community Center of Washington, DC to honor their survivors on June 2nd.
The Pittsburgh Holocaust Center
Hosted a lunch on June 4th for local survivors and 3G members of the community.
Hamilton Jewish Family Services
Hosted a luncheon, tour of the local Holocaust Museum, and guest speaker to recognize Holocaust survivors on June 4th. The organizers provided each survivor with a special commemorative pin.
Moorpark, CA
Hosted two performances of a play called SURVIVORS (from playwright/co-producer Wendy Kout) for middle-school students.
JCC Budapest
Hosted an event for local survivors in late July.
Raritan Valley Community College in New Jersey
Hosted a book display about local Holocaust survivors in their library for the entire month of June. Several survivors had authored some of the books that were available for students and visitors.
Holocaust Survivor Services and Advocacy Jewish Family & Children's Service Cherry Hill, NJ
Hosted two events: one for the Cherry Hill community on June 4th and one for the Vineland community on June 6th. Each event commenced with a welcoming address from representatives of the Jewish Federation, a rabbi, and JFCS professionals. Local dignitaries and major donors also attended the festivities. Attendees enjoyed musical entertainment in the form of a klezmer band as well as a kosher lunch and delicious dessert. A photo booth captured memorable moments and provided attendees with framed photos to take home. Additionally, each attendee received a party favor with a supermarket gift card, agency-embossed picture frame, insulated lunch bag, large word search book, and kosher packaged dessert to take home with them at the conclusion of the event.

HSD Again Links Two Communities: Atlanta, GA, and Krakow, Poland
Hosted by Cherie Aviv and the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta, around 130 guests, including 30+ survivors, convened for a lunch on June 5th. The event will include a recorded video from JCC Krakow CEO Jonathan Ornstein discussing the link between the two communities as well as a presentation of personal notes from members of the Krakow Jewish community to survivors (The Atlanta community also wrote notes to survivors included in the JCC Krakow HSD booklet.). In honor of the strong intercity bond, the organizers presented two posters, one from each community.
